Differences between an Oversized Chair and a Chair

We've all been shopping for something that we know almost nothing about. So when a salesman tries to convince you to spend more money on a chair and a half instead of the 'cheaper' oversized chair, who are you to argue? But don't be fooled by the sales pitch. In all reality, there isn't a tremendous difference between the two products, and each is truly a fine piece of furniture.

Chair and a half may be a less known term than oversized chair. Simply stated, these chairs are meant to comfortably and cozily fit two people. Think of them as miniature loveseats, still small enough to have in an office, but large enough to curl up on with your favorite person. Many of them also have some extra features built in, such as a foldaway bed or a glider option. Typically, pieces that have these additions are referred to solely as a chair and a half, but it honestly depends on the manufacturer. There are plenty of chairs that are dubbed 'oversize' that can double as beds as well.

Perhaps the one real difference can be found in material. Both oversized chairs and the chair and a half can be made from any material ranging from cotton to leather. But if the chair is made from primarily wood, wicker, or some form of plastic, you will never see it referred to as a chair and a half. Oversized chairs of this material tend to be cheaper and targeted to a younger crowed who have never heard of the term "chair and a half."
